Silas & Arti Shadid

Silas Shadid is a real estate industry entrepreneur with a grass-roots mission to help urban communities reclaim their economic and social health.  Starting with a single apartment property rehab project in 1986, Silas’s real estate business interests today include owning, actively managing, and investing to develop multifamily and commercial properties in several inner city Chicago neighborhoods.

Designed by Necessity

The inspiration for myUrbanSKYSM emerged directly from the need to improve his buildings’ operational efficiency—and his desire to create amenity-enhanced home environments that his ‘underserved’ urban tenants could afford.

As experienced travelers to many third-world and developing countries, Silas and his wife, Arti, have seen firsthand the magnitude of opportunity created by access to information and education. Closer to home, they believe that offering tenants affordable home-Internet-access is a simple and effective solution that will help close the ‘digital divide’.

Thus, the Shadids leveraged their expertise and launched myUrbanSKY.

Their zeal for this mission does not end at the office door. In 2000, Silas and Arti founded a charitable foundation dedicated to building collaboration among not-for-profit community organizations.
